News Flash

I heard about this book on NPR and just knew I wanted to read it. Despite the cover photo looking a little like a Beverly Lewis novel this should be a good read. Sandra Dallas is the author of the Persian Pickle Club which I believe we all read together several/many years ago. This new book is about the Mormon crossing of the country at Brigham Young's urging.

Other things I have read of note lately:
Stones in the River by Ursula Heigi (thanks Laurie for the recommendation!)
This was an interesting book on many levels. It took a bit of work to complete but helped me to understand how the average German was unable to prevent the rise of Nazism.

Driftless by David Rhodes (thanks Ellen!)
I actually listened to this book. Set in SW Wisconsin, this book really gives a good perspective on rural life but is really about how interconnected we all are. The characters are extremely lovable.

About Food: I tried an experiment with making tamales with a corn tortilla instead of using masa. They were moister and lighter but kind of fell apart. I am going to try the recipe again and wrap them differently. When I get a good batch, I will share my secrets.

Love to hear what you are reading!
Love,
Jill

  1. "True Sisters" was pretty good but not outstanding. I didn't learn as much about the Mormom Trek as I thought I might.
